THE HISTORY OF SEA EXPLORER SHIP 5502

 

The Ship was chartered in Sept. 1988 by Chuck Webster of the American Red Cross.  He chartered 501 and 503 at the same time.  Our first meeting place was the JV Fire Station.  The SHAC Fleet consisted of nine ships:

1st Haul-out for "Blue Swan" - Seabrook Shipyard Complete paint over; replaced prop shaft & cutlass bearing; repaired muffler

Mar. 1989 -

1st sail aboard "Blue Swan".  Top light fell off and almost beaned MW

1st Rendezvous at Lake Somerville - Rocky Creek Park

CAT sailing at Texas City dike with Chuck & Mary

1st Fund Raiser - Distributed flyers and parked cars for Exxon hydroplane races.

Feb. 1990 -

1st Mardigras sail aboard "Cutter Bill"

Apr. 1990 -

Rendezvous at Rocky Creek Park - Lake Somerville

May. 1990 -

1st overnight to Red Fish Island

June - 1990 -

Night sail to Red Fish Island with Plaster family & return.  Engine quit in clear lake channel. Used battery to turn prop for propulsion. Towed to Watergate.

Oct. 1990 -

Camp out at Lake Somerville - Snow ; rented 2 cabins at marina.  Naked girls in towels.

Sail to Mardigras aboard "Blue Swan" ; anchored out

Returned to Rocky Creek Park for Rendezvous

"Blue Swan" to Mardigras again; anchored off yacht basin again.  Captured Beneteau 31.

Spring Rendezvous rained out

Took Mariners out again.

Drove to Mardigras; Blue Norther canceled the sail

Rendezvous returns to Lake Somerville - North Shore

2nd Haul-out for Blue Swan.  Out of water for 4 weeks.

Minto rendezvous revived & held at Palacious

Received "Golden Swan".  Needed major work

Feb. 1995 -

Mardigras sail canceled again. Drove down. Slept on boats at Watergate.

Spring Rendezvous held at Huntsville State Park

Sep. 1995 -

Minto Rendezvous held at watergate

Sep. 1995 -

Canoe down San Marcos.

Jan. 1996 -

Canoe down Colorado

Feb. 1996 -

Sailed to Mardigras with 2 boats. Had berths. Katy incident

Mar. 1996 -

Spring Rendezvous held at Strake. Ship 502 in charge. Ran perfectly.

May. 1996 -

Long sail to Freeport. 1st time for fleet boats to go offshore.

Aug. 1996 -

Minto Rendezvous held at Watergate.
